What does the SEPA direct debit module do?

It lets you collect euro invoices straight from your customers' bank accounts with SEPA Core direct debit, without a card processor or payment provider in the middle. It has two parts: a payment gateway that customers pick at checkout or on an invoice, and an addon that keeps the mandates, works out the collection dates and builds the file your bank needs.

The flow follows the SEPA rules. A customer grants a mandate with their IBAN and account holder name and receives a confirmation email with a mandate reference. From then on, each invoice email carries the pre-notification: amount, earliest collection date, masked account, mandate reference and your creditor identifier. On collection day you pick a bank business day, check the invoices that are ready and create a pain.008.001.08 XML file to upload in online banking or over EBICS.

What is included?

When is an invoice marked paid?

Only when you confirm the money arrived. SEPA has no live payment callback, so the module never marks an invoice paid on its own. Once a file is created, its invoices move to Payment Pending, which holds back reminders and suspensions. When the credit shows on your bank account, you click Book as collected and WHMCS records the payments and sends its usual confirmation. If the bank returns a debit before you book, the invoice opens again. After booking, the returned amount is recorded against the customer and a new invoice asks for the open amount plus your fee.

Who is it for?

Hosting companies and service providers that bill customers in the euro area, especially in Germany, where many business customers expect to pay by direct debit. It suits teams whose bank account is already enabled for SEPA Core collections and who want mandates and bank files inside WHMCS instead of a spreadsheet.

What do you need, and what are the limits?

Requirements: WHMCS 9, a SEPA creditor identifier (in Germany it comes from the Deutsche Bundesbank) and a bank account enabled for SEPA Core direct debits. The download includes the small shared core addon these modules run on. Admin pages and customer texts come in German and English.

Limits: the module does not connect to your bank. You upload the XML file yourself and book it once the money arrives. Only invoices in euro can be collected. Taking the IBAN during checkout needs an account holder field and an IBAN field in your order form template; without them, customers grant the mandate in the client area or you record a paper mandate. Mandates unused for 36 months expire on their own, and open direct debit invoices of an ended mandate switch to bank transfer.
