OWASP API Security Top 10RESTGraphQL

About this package

This package tests a REST or GraphQL API against the OWASP API Security Top 10 and gives you a report with CVSS severity, the exact requests that prove each finding, fixes and a retest. It is for SaaS founders and app teams whose mobile app, frontend or partners call an API that also holds customer data.

The flaws APIs actually ship with

  • Object-level access: I log in as one user and request another user's records by changing the ID, which is the most common serious API bug.
  • Authentication: JWT signature and expiry handling, tokens that still work after logout, and API keys passed in URLs where logs keep them.
  • Responses that return fields the screen hides, such as emails, internal notes or password hashes.
  • Mass assignment, where adding a role or plan field to a request quietly upgrades the account.
  • Rate limits on login, one-time codes and password reset, checked with a small agreed number of requests.

Premium adds GraphQL depth and batching abuse, webhook signature and replay checks, and tests that one tenant can never read another tenant's data.

Scope and permission

Testing runs only after the API owner signs a written authorization naming the base URLs, endpoints and accounts in scope. Your API has to be yours: if it sits on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Supabase or Firebase, I follow that provider's published testing policy. Staging is preferred. Rate-limit checks are not load testing, and nothing in this package tries to slow down or overwhelm the service.

What makes it go faster

An OpenAPI file or a Postman collection, plus two test accounts per role, lets me spend the time on testing instead of mapping. Without documentation, the API mapping extra builds the collection from your app's traffic, and you keep it for your own regression tests. The report and that collection go only to you.

I have built websites, WHMCS modules and web apps for clients since before AI coding tools existed. Today I build with AI-assisted tools and review every change myself, which is why fixed prices here are lower than an agency's for the same scope. I work while the US, Canada and Australia sleep, so each morning there is progress on your staging link.

Questions about this package

Will rate limit testing affect real users?

It should not. I agree a number of requests per route with you beforehand, usually a few dozen, enough to see whether a limit exists and what happens when it triggers. That is far below anything that would slow the service, and I stop at once if response times change.

Can you test an API on Firebase or Supabase?

Yes, when the project is yours. Both platforms allow customers to test their own projects within their published rules, and I keep to them. I test your security rules, functions and API routes, not the platform's own infrastructure, which belongs to the provider and is outside any scope I accept.

Do you test the mobile app itself?

This package tests the API the app talks to, which is where the data lives. The mobile traffic extra captures your app's calls on a test device so none are missed. Reverse engineering the app binary or testing on-device storage is a different kind of test and is not part of this package.

How ordering a package works

  1. 1

    Choose a plan

Pick Starter, Business or Premium and pay once by card, PayPal or crypto. The price on the page is the price.

  2. 2

    Send your content

A project opens for your order. Send your text, logo, photos and any logins I need there.

  3. 3

    I build it

I build on a private staging link you can open on your phone, with updates as I go.

  4. 4

    Launch and handover

After your approval the site goes live on your domain, and every login is yours.

One-time price, no monthly fee from me

You pay for the build once. Your domain and hosting are registered in your name and renewed with your hosting provider, who bills you directly. I add nothing on top, and the site keeps running whether or not you hire me again.

What I do not build

Gambling and adult websites, and sites that sell content without the rights to it. Need something not listed? Ask for a custom quote.
