Hourly Billing and Time Tracking for WHMCS
Track hours against WHMCS services, set an hourly rate for each, and turn logged time into invoices automatically.
What does hourly billing in WHMCS involve?
It means charging clients for the time actually spent rather than a fixed monthly price. WHMCS is built around recurring products, so selling consulting, support blocks or pay-as-you-go work usually ends with someone adding up hours in a spreadsheet and typing an invoice by hand. This module keeps the time inside WHMCS and bills from it.
How does the module turn hours into invoices?
You set an hourly rate on each service. Time is logged against that service by your admins, or by the client when that suits the work, and every entry is kept in a detailed log. When it is time to bill, the module generates the invoice from those entries automatically.
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rates | An hourly rate configured per service |
| Time entry | Hours logged by admins or by clients |
| Time logs | A detailed record of every entry |
| Invoicing | Invoices generated from logged time |
| Reports | Reporting and analytics on hours and income |
Who is it for?
Hosting companies that sell managed support or server administration by the hour, IT consultants and agencies already using WHMCS for billing, and anyone who wants to offer a pay-as-you-go service next to their regular plans. Because clients can see the time log behind each charge, there is less back-and-forth about what an invoice covers.
What do you need, and what are the limits?
Requirements: WHMCS 8.13 (my test version) and PHP 8.1 or newer. No outside account or API key is needed.
Limits: this is a billing and time-logging tool, not a project management, task tracking or payroll system. The invoices are only as accurate as the hours entered, so agree with clients on how time is recorded and rounded before you start.
The license is $249 once for lifetime use and includes a year of updates and support. Support renewal after that is $99 a year and optional.

Frequently asked questions
Can clients log their own time?

Yes. Time can be entered by your admins or by the client, depending on how you run the service. Every entry goes into a detailed time log attached to that service, and the invoice is generated from those logs, so both sides can see exactly what was billed and why.

Can different services have different hourly rates?

Yes. The hourly rate is configured per service, so a basic support block and a senior consulting service can carry different prices. When invoices are generated, each service's logged time is charged at its own rate. Reporting and analytics then show where your billable hours are going.

How does licensing and support work?

You pay $249 once and the license is yours for life, with the first twelve months of updates and support included. From the second year, renewing support costs $99 annually and is entirely optional; the module keeps running whether or not you renew. Delivery is instant, with a seven-day refund window.
