For US businesses
Remote AI and Full-Stack Developer for US Businesses
I am Shahid Malla, a remote developer in India who builds AI agents and chatbots, SaaS products and web apps, CRMs and WHMCS systems for US companies. You get one senior developer for the whole job, calls during your morning, code ownership written into the quote, and a fixed price or $55-$65 per hour.
Free scoping call of about 30 minutes · written quote within one business day · two weeks of support after delivery

What can you hire me to build?
AI agents and chatbots first, then the software around them: SaaS products, web apps, CRMs, automations and websites. For US hosting companies, I also build on WHMCS. Each line of work has its own page with the scope and the limits.
| Work | Typical project | Details |
|---|---|---|
| AI agents | An agent that reads support tickets, looks up the account and drafts the reply, with a person approving anything risky | AI agent development |
| AI chatbots | A chatbot on your site, in WhatsApp or in your app that answers from your own documents and hands off to your team | AI chatbot development |
| SaaS and web apps | A subscription product or customer portal on Laravel or Next.js, with Stripe billing | SaaS development |
| Mobile apps | Android and iOS apps from one codebase, with the API and admin panel behind them | Mobile app development |
| CRM and automation | A CRM shaped around your sales process, or workflows that move data between the tools you already pay for | CRM development |
| WHMCS | Custom modules, integrations, ACH billing and tax rules for a hosting company | Hire a WHMCS developer |
| Servers and DevOps | Deployment, monitoring and hardening for the servers your product runs on | Hosting infrastructure |
I do not sell small one-off fixes as a separate service. Work starts from a written scope, even when the scope is short.
How do our working hours overlap?
Your morning is evening in India. India stays on UTC+5:30 all year, while US clocks change twice a year. NIST says daylight saving time ends on 1 November 2026 and starts on the second Sunday of March, which is 14 March 2027, so every window below moves by one hour on those dates. We agree a call slot within these hours in the quote, and a written update covers the rest.
| Your time zone | Your morning | In India, 1 Nov 2026 to 13 Mar 2027 | In India, 14 Mar to 6 Nov 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eastern | 8:00-11:00 | 18:30-21:30 | 17:30-20:30 |
| Central | 8:00-11:00 | 19:30-22:30 | 18:30-21:30 |
| Mountain | 8:00-10:00 | 20:30-22:30 | 19:30-21:30 |
| Pacific | 8:00-10:00 | 21:30-23:30 | 20:30-22:30 |
Eastern and Central mornings are the easiest fit. Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii do not observe daylight saving time, so their gap to India stays the same all year. The time difference also gives you a handoff: what you send at the end of your day arrives during the Indian working day.
What paperwork does a US company need from me?
US clients can ask for a W-8BEN, an invoice in US dollars and ownership terms in writing. I am not a tax adviser, so the points below are what the IRS publishes, not advice about your return.
- Form W-8BEN. The IRS instructions say a nonresident alien gives the form "to the withholding agent or payer", and "Do not send Form W-8BEN to the IRS." If your accounts team asks for it, it comes before the first invoice.
- Where the work is done. IRS Publication 515 says: "The place where the services are performed determines the source of the income, regardless of where the contract was made, the place of payment, or the residence of the payer." I work from India.
- Your reporting. Whether you file a Form 1099, a Form 1042-S or nothing is your accountant's decision. Give them the W-8BEN and the invoices.
- Payment. A direct invoice in US dollars with stages written into the quote, or Upwork or Fiverr if you want a marketplace in the middle.
Who owns the code, and why does a written assignment matter?
Ownership of the custom code is written into the quote before work starts, and for a US client that can be an assignment of copyright to your company on final payment, in a document I sign. Under Section 101 of the Copyright Act, as the Copyright Office's Circular 30 explains, a commissioned work is a "work made for hire" only if it fits one of nine categories, such as a contribution to a collective work or a translation, and both sides sign a written agreement saying so. Custom software and websites are not named on that list, so a work-for-hire clause alone may not move ownership from an outside contractor. Circular 1 says a transfer of copyright "generally must be made in writing and signed by the owner of the rights conveyed".
Three things stay outside any assignment:
- Open-source parts, such as Laravel or a React library, which stay under their own licenses.
- Paid third-party parts, such as a theme or a WHMCS module, which you license from the vendor in your name.
- My reusable base code, if a project starts from it, which you may use and change for your own business without a time limit, as the quote states.
I build with AI coding agents such as Claude Code and review every change myself. The Copyright Office's 2025 report says AI output is protected "only where a human author has determined sufficient expressive elements", and not by "the mere provision of prompts". An assignment transfers whatever copyright exists in the code.
Which US rules shape the build?
Four sets of rules can shape a US build, so I raise them in the first scope. Your lawyer or accountant decides how they apply to your company.
Accessibility
The Department of Justice's March 2022 guidance says it "has consistently taken the position" that the ADA covers what businesses open to the public offer, "including those offered on the web", and points to WCAG as helpful guidance. It has no technical regulation for private businesses. For state and local governments, the 2024 rule names WCAG 2.1 Level AA. An interim final rule published on 20 April 2026 moved the compliance dates to 26 April 2027 for state and local governments with a total population of 50,000 or more, and to 26 April 2028 for smaller ones and special district governments. I work toward WCAG 2.1 AA, with real headings, labeled forms, keyboard access and enough contrast, but I do not certify compliance.
Privacy and AI decisions
By my count of the IAPP's state privacy law chart, updated 8 September 2026, 19 states had comprehensive consumer privacy laws in effect as of 28 October 2026, and four more take effect in 2027 or 2028. In California, businesses covered by the CCPA that use automated decision-making technology for significant decisions, such as employment, housing, financial services, education or healthcare, must meet new notice, access and, where applicable, opt-out duties from 1 January 2027. For an agent that makes such decisions, I can add a human review step and a log of what it saw and did; your lawyer decides what is required.
Reviews and AI claims
The FTC's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials has been in force since 21 October 2024. It covers fake reviews, including AI-generated ones, and buying reviews for a particular sentiment. The FTC also sues over AI claims that go beyond what a product does. In August 2025 it sued Air AI, which advertised that its conversational AI could replace human customer service representatives, over deceptive claims about business growth, earnings and refunds. I do not build tools that write fake reviews, and I describe an agent by what it does: which questions it answers and when it hands off.
Sales tax on SaaS and hosting
US sales tax on software and services depends on the state. New York taxes prewritten software however it is delivered, including by remote access, but not custom software designed for one buyer. Texas treats sellers of software as a service as data processing providers and taxes those services with 20 percent of the charge exempt. Your tax adviser decides the rates. I configure them in your billing system and keep them easy to change.
How do US hosting companies on WHMCS use me?
Beyond the usual modules and integrations, US hosting companies ask me about billing details that differ in the US.
- State tax rules. WHMCS sets tax rules by country and state and treats products as untaxed by default, even when rules exist. Rates are changed by replacing the rule. I set the rules your adviser gives me and mark the right products taxable.
- ACH payments. The WHMCS Stripe ACH module says payments "can take up to five days to process", and the invoice stays at Payment Pending until then. I check that suspension and reminder settings leave those clients alone while the payment clears.
- Cards and Stripe. The Stripe module setup, keys and testing are covered in my WHMCS Stripe guide.
Scope, safety and proof for WHMCS work are on my hire a WHMCS developer page.
Which US companies have I worked with?
Two US companies can be named here, and other US clients are not:
- Marmaids LLC. I am a freelance developer for this US company. I built a WHMCS module, an API, Android and iOS apps and a CRM for it.
- CloudByteHost. WHMCS automation for a US hosting company running several cPanel servers: provisioning across servers, billing reconciliation, a client portal and a batched account migration.
For US customers I also built Chargewise, a Next.js store for a company that ships smart 12V battery chargers across the United States and Canada.
My Upwork and Fiverr profiles carry the public reviews: Top Rated on both, with 580+ five-star reviews on Fiverr.
When am I the wrong choice for you?
- You need someone on site in your office, or on call around the clock without a separate support agreement.
- You need a large team at once. I am one developer.
- Your contract requires the work to be done in the United States or by a US person.
- The cheapest hourly rate decides. My rate is $55-$65, which buys one senior developer who scopes, builds and supports the work.
Disclosure: I am an independent developer, not affiliated with OpenAI or Anthropic. I am CTO at ElySpace, a freelance developer for Marmaids LLC, and founder of WHMCSPilot and MagizAI. Tax, privacy and accessibility points on this page quote the IRS, the Copyright Office, the Department of Justice, the FTC, the California Privacy Protection Agency and state tax authorities as read on 28 October 2026. They are not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
What hours do you overlap with US time zones?
Your morning is evening in India. From 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027, 8:00 to 11:00 Eastern is 18:30 to 21:30 in India, and 8:00 to 11:00 Central is 19:30 to 22:30. Pacific mornings fall late in the Indian evening, so the overlap is shorter. India does not change its clocks, so every window moves by one hour when US daylight saving time starts or ends. We agree a call slot in the quote, and a written update each working day covers the rest.
Do you sign a W-8BEN, and do I need to file a 1099?
US clients can ask me for a W-8BEN. The IRS says the form goes to the payer, not to the IRS. I work from India, and IRS Publication 515 says the place where services are performed determines the source of the income. Whether you file a 1099 or anything else is for your accountant to decide, so show them the form and the invoices.
Who owns the code you write for a US company?
Ownership is written into the quote before work starts, and for a US client that can be a signed assignment of copyright on final payment. Under Section 101 of the Copyright Act, as the Copyright Office's Circular 30 explains, a commissioned work is a work made for hire only if it fits one of nine categories and both sides sign a written agreement saying so. Custom software and websites are not named among the nine, which is why a written assignment matters. Open-source and third-party parts keep their own licenses.
How do I pay you?
By direct invoice in US dollars, with the payment stages written into the quote, or through Upwork or Fiverr if you prefer a marketplace's payment protection. The price and the scope are the same either way.
Will the website meet ADA accessibility expectations?
I work toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA, but I do not certify compliance. The Department of Justice's 2022 guidance says it has consistently taken the position that the ADA covers what businesses open to the public offer, including on the web, and points to WCAG as helpful guidance without setting a technical rule for private businesses. For state and local governments, its rule names WCAG 2.1 AA, with compliance dates of 26 April 2027 or 26 April 2028 depending on population and type of government. No developer can promise that a site will never be challenged.
Can an AI agent you build follow US privacy rules?
It can be built to. An agent can keep personal data out of prompts unless the task needs it, log what it does, and pass any decision about employment, housing, financial services, education or healthcare to a person. For businesses covered by the CCPA, California's rules on automated decision-making technology for such significant decisions apply from 1 January 2027, with notice, access and, where applicable, opt-out rights. Your lawyer decides which laws apply to your business, and I build the controls they ask for.
Is a remote developer in India a risk for a US company?
The risks buyers name are slow communication, unclear ownership and a developer who disappears halfway. The quote answers them in writing before work starts: a written update each working day, an agreed call slot, the repository and accounts in your name, payment stages, and who owns the code. You can also check my reviews on Upwork and Fiverr before you decide.
What happens if something breaks while you are asleep?
For a production system we agree the support terms in the quote: who gets alerted, how fast I respond and in which hours. The time difference can also help, because a problem reported at the end of your day falls in the Indian working day.
